The biggest question you need to ask yourself when dealing with linking to social networks is will it work for me. If you have the time or someone to keep the comments flowing on Facebook, or Twitter, or LinkedIn, and all the others, then you should utilize them and have them linked on your site. I had a client who asked how come I didn't have my social links on my landing page, and how come not all the sites I built had the links. My response was simple, 1. I don't use the social network as much as I should, I don't have time. On my content page I do have LinkedIn linked. 2. Not all my clients want to deal with social networks, that is their choice. Then I was asked how come I didn't push it. I explain how facebook works and how it could work for them and their business. But then it is up to the client to decide. Just think how bad it is if they had a link on their great website, a visitor goes to their facebook business page and it is empty. Doesn't look good.
Do you have time to keep up with them?
I recommend both to my clients. There is a lot of talk about purchasing links, or send out thousands of request for linking with some company you never heard of. I have even a real blog called "Hoofing It Globally" The funny thing is just in mentioning it here, I have created an external link for this site, and a supporting link for hoofing it. However, given the fact they are not relative or share similar keywords, being linked on one to the other doesn't have a huge impact on improving ratings for this site. To do that, I need to contact other web related websites to see if they will link my site on theirs and vice a versa. Then I have to make sure they don't slip in the silly no-follow rule. If they do, then I have wasted my time and space on my site.
Back to Blogs. Have one, maintain it, put up interesting facts, data, tidbits, what ever that you don't mind sharing with others. Then if you get responses. watch for their linking. On my Hoofing it Globally site, I get responses from those who are looking for a good time, and I don't mean bowling. So be on the look out for trash and irrelevant links.
I am always teaching my clients the ins and outs of Search Engine Optimization. Without it a site may never make it in the top 3 pages of a search. One crucial element of SEO is freshness of content. Using this one way blog, it can be accomplished. So far in this brief paragraph and intro I have used two keywords - blog and SEO. That is the best part about a blog of any type. You as the editor can decide what key words or long tails (long phrases) you want to introduce to your site.
As you develop your thoughts for the day or week, you are in fact refreshing your site. While you are at, consider mentioning some other businesses or companies you are partners with. Quality linking is always a nice touch.
This year businesses should be looking to each other to take control of their economic situations. Partnerships are invaluable, they are in essence a networking and marketing tool. Some partners will offer cash back for referrals, other a link on their site, and all of them, a positive word about the companies they support. That is what the Clients website Company is all about.
Over the next several days, I will be tweaking the site with new clients, even updating repeating clients on the home page, and in the portfolio section. By updating the site, I want to share my clients with all those who visit. This company doesn't just design, develop, and improve SEO for new and existing websites, but supports the product or services of the businesses. We feel by trusting us to give them a site that will meet their expectations, they are trusting us as individual, We reciprocate the same trust.
When you have a website worked on, don't settle for less, granted some changes are not possible, but alternatives are. Talk to your webmaster, keep an open mind, and look for a working solution. The key is a win- win outcome.
