"Thank you so much for the great suggestions you gave me. My search engine ranking has already improved and continues to climb." ... "We have already gotten four leads from the site in the past few days. Rock n Gardens--Kelly and Eric BolesGetting on the 'first page' of a search
feb.1.2010Yesterday, I had a phone conversation with Dan Egger-Belandria, his website is New World Synergy. Dan was setting up his Google Ad-Words Campaign. He called for some ideas and guidance. I suggested he set up a different campaign for each of the categories on his site, this way each would be unique and target specific audiences oppose a more general audience. For his keywords he could use keywords specific and focus on phrases that would be entered in a search, in other words, he needed to think like his different potential visitors. What would they type in to search for a diversity trainer, or a youth cross cultural workshop, etc. The more specific you can be in setting up the campaign, the better the chances of getting a return on the investment.
The other factor in setting up campaigns is deciding how much to spend, what will be the cost per click (cpc) and what is the duration of the campaign? These depend on your budget and if you are testing variations of a campaign. I have had clients spend as much as $1000 a month with the three top search engines, Google, Yahoo, and Bing. Others have spent $400-$600. How do you know what to dedicate to internet advertising? We'll visit this next week.
For now, before you invest in ad-words, see where you are when you do a search. Dan was third on the first page, 1 month after having his site re-designed and SEO work done on it. Needless to say, his campaign needs to focus on the categories or specific phrases that do not come up on the first page. At the same time, we need to re-visit his content to check to see if those phrases are used.
